Harimau Muda coach Ong Kim Swee delighted with Nazmi Faiz's
chance to play at Portuguese club Beira Mar.
The Malaysia U-23 boss has shown all his happiness about
Nazmi Faiz's possibility of playing in Portugal, saying that it's a win for
Malaysian youth football development Harimau Muda coach Ong Kim Swee has
expressed all his satisfaction after whizkid Nazmi Faiz landed a with
Portuguese top flight club Beira Mar. The 17-year-old, who attracted
interest from Cardiff City in January, will fly to Portugal with his father on
Sunday to train for a week with the Aveiro-based side, in the hope of winning a
pre-contract with the team as he is not yet able to sign a professional deal.
Despite the possibility of losing a young star player, Ong
told espnstar.com that he was delighted for Faiz and said it
was a huge positive for Malaysian football. “This is great news in terms
of the development of Malaysian football. We hope that Nazmi will cherish the
opportunity to play in Portugal's top flight next season,” he said.
On the trial, he explained: "After a couple of days of
speculation in regards to Nazmi heading to Europe, we have now got an agreement
between Nazmi and the Portuguese club Beira Mar. "He will go for a
trial with them from May 14 until May 21. This is an excellent
development." The former Malaysia international added that he is
ready to lose one of his best players of the team in a crucial point of the
S.League season, saying that it's the club's aim to develop players to play at
the highest level.
“We have to make the sacrifice. The S.League is important,
but I will never hesitate if any of my players get a chance to play overseas,
especially in Europe,” he said. “It is, after all, Harimau Muda's intent
to develop Malaysia's future footballers.”
